I’m the man who has seen trouble, trouble coming from the lash of GOD ’s anger. He took me by the hand and walked me into pitch-black darkness. Yes, he’s given me the back of his hand over and over and over again. Lamentations 3:1-3 MSGIt’s so difficult to comprehend. But God Himself is taking Jeremiah and walking him into pitch-black darkness. Is this feeling familiar to you? It is familiar to me…. Pitchblack darkness.
He turned me into a scarecrow of skin and bones, then broke the bones. He hemmed me in, ganged up on me, poured on the trouble and hard times. He locked me up in deep darkness, like a corpse nailed inside a coffin.
He shuts me in so I’ll never get out, handcuffs my wrists, shackles my feet. Even when I cry out and plead for help, he locks up my prayers and throws away the key. He sets up blockades with quarried limestone. He’s got me cornered.
Lamentations 3:4-12 MSGHe’s a prowling bear tracking me down, a lion in hiding ready to pounce. He knocked me from the path and ripped me to pieces. When he finished, there was nothing left of me. He took out his bow and arrows and used me for target practice.
WHERE IS YOUR GOD?
And everything around is screaming “WHERE IS YOUR GOD?” It feels as if you are left alone. Yes, it does, and all your strength is gone. But listen, He walked me to this darkness by His own hand. The way He walked me in, He will stay in with me and HE WILL WALK ME OUT!!! And yes, it feels like He does not hear you, because at one point YOU ASKED HIM AND ALLOWED HIM TO DO HIS PERFECT WORK AND HIS PERFECT WILL IN YOUR LIFE!!! I remember my own prayer, when I prayed, “Lord, I love you, and I say ‘YES’, I want to be what You want me to be, work on me, and when it will be too painful, and I will not be able to handle it and will be crying ‘STOP!’, DO NOT STOP! I know that Your ways are better than mine.I trust you….
Yes, sometimes it feels like God knocks us from our paths and rips us apart, but…. WHEN HE FINISHES, THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF US.He shot me in the stomach with arrows from his quiver. Everyone took me for a joke, made me the butt of their mocking ballads. He forced rotten, stinking food down my throat, bloated me with vile drinks. He ground my face into the gravel. He pounded me into the mud. I gave up on life altogether. I’ve forgotten what the good life is like. I said to myself, “This is it. I’m finished. GOD is a lost cause.”. Lamentations 3:13-18 MSGFamiliar feelings, but I do not think any one of us went through what Jeremiah was going through… I do not know how Jeremiah could handle it, but I know that after… it left nothing of him before His God…
I’ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness, the taste of ashes, the poison I’ve swallowed. I remember it all—oh, how well I remember— the feeling of hitting the bottom. But there’s one other thing I remember, and remembering, I keep a grip on hope: GOD ’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with GOD (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left. GOD. HE IS ALL I’VE GOT LEFT. Nothing of me, all of Him – this is only one thing that Left in Jeremiah’s life. It is mind blowing. GOD proves to be good to the man who passionately waits, to the woman who diligently seeks. It’s a good thing to quietly hope, quietly hope for help from GOD. It’s a good thing when you’re young to stick it out through the hard times. When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself. Enter the silence. Bow in prayer. Don’t ask questions: Wait for hope to appear. Don’t run from trouble. Take it full-face. The “worst” is never the worst. Lamentations 3:19-30 MSGGod! What kind of faith we should have, and how hard should the path be? I need to memorize that … “When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself”– go to your prayer closet, privately, on your own; Enter the silence – wait for the Lord; bow in prayer – lay down everything before Him, He comes to broken-hearted and to those who humble themselves. Do not ask questions – He knows, He was there and He is now near. Wait for hope to appear – just enter His peace and rest in His presence. Do not run from trouble, take it full-face – Our war is not against flesh and blood, When there is nothing left of us, God Himself is in us and He is the One who carries the battle.
Take authority of His words and speak them out facing the enemy.
The “worst” is not the worst. Without pitch-black darkness experience, we are not capable of standing against the worst enemy, because our flesh will never give us a chance to stand. Why? Because the Master won’t ever walk out and fail to return. If he works severely, he also works tenderly. His stockpiles of loyal love are immense. He takes no pleasure in making life hard, in throwing roadblocks in the way… Lamentations 3:31-33 MSG
