You may wonder why recently I have put such emphasis on that which is to happen in the future. You may wonder why I have brought so many messages regarding the Word of Prophecy. There may be those without any understanding who feel as though you would like for me to get off the subject. I have got to do it! I have got to warn you regarding that which is about to happen in the future.
Someone was so alarmed when they left the service last Sunday and they said: Why Miss Kuhlman talks as though these things are going to happen soon. She talks as though people living this hour are going to experience these things. I believe it with every atom of my being and I have got facts to substantiate the truth and the reality of these things happening in our generation. I believe with every atom of my being that these things that I have been bringing you both on Tuesday nights and on Sundays WILL HAPPEN IN OUR GENERATION.
God gave as a signpost Israel. When the disciples asked Jesus what sign – how can we know when these things are going to happen – and remember, when it comes to the Word of Prophecy, I believe that when we have the Rapture of the Church, the great Catching Up, I believe that when the Holy Spirit leaves that this turning of events will take place as quickly, just as instantly as when Jesus came to earth in the form of a Babe. Do you know that over 100 prophecies took place in just a matter of 24 hours in one person, in Jesus Christ? Had you told Isaiah that it would have happened that quickly, he never would have believed it. Had you told anyone of the Old Testament saints that that many prophecies would have been fulfilled in less than 24 hours, they would not have believed it. All of those wonderful prophecies that the prophets sang about took place that quickly. When you realize how many prophecies took place in the trial, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus – and very quickly – I believe that prophecy will be fulfilled that quickly in this generation.
We have already had the budding of the fig tree. The Jews are back home in Israel. The 37th chapter of Ezekiel has already been fulfilled. We are now in the last stage of the last church. We are now at the very end of the Church-age. As you read the Book of the Revelation, we have already gone through, we have experienced, we have seen it is no longer church prophecy; it is church history, through the second and third chapters. We are now closing the door on the very last period of the last church. And remember, as you study the Book of the Revelation, that when we come to the last hour, the last moment of the Church, it is then that the DOOR IS OPENED IN HEAVEN – the Rapture of the Church. We are so near the Rapture of the Church, it could take place today, before I finish speaking.
I have gotten so, beloved, that I never awaken but what I wonder: Is it going to happen today? I never start a week but what I think: Could this be the week? I know something about the Holy Spirit. Oh, the anointing, as I have been bringing these messages, has been so great. It has not been Kathryn Kuhlman who has spoken to you, I have given you the revelation as He has given it to me. I am not smart. No one has taught me anything. I have
not gotten it from any book. You cannot find the things that I have been giving you in any book. You can search your commentaries. I have gotten the interpretation straight from the Throne of God. The Holy Ghost has come upon me in giving me revelations as I stood before you and they have come so quickly I could not speak fast enough to give them to you. The Holy Ghost has given me the mentality. Why? Not because I am smart. It is simply because I have tried to be a YIELDED VESSEL in His hand. He is giving the interpretation because this is the generation that needs the interpretation, because these things will happen during this present generation. Know that!
As I bring you these messages regarding the Revelation, there are people living who will see all of the Book of the Revelation no longer prophecy but history.
Remember the man who came to one of the women and he said to her: Say, if I was dead sure that Miss Kuhlman was dead sure that there wasn’t anything on the moon, I sure could make a lot of money. A father introduced his son to me just yesterday. He said he is working with the rockets. It is all a very secretive thing for the government. He is working on a plan that they have for going to the moon. The young man was standing there, a brilliant young fella. I said: Well, young fella, you know what you are going to find when you get there? Oh, he was all eyes and he said – What? I said – Nothing! I never saw… it was just as though you had taken a pin and punctured a balloon. He looked at me! I said – That’s right. All you need to do is to read the Bible. Read Genesis. God had a purpose for the moon and for the sun. And one of these days, fella, when He gets all through with the moon and the moon has served its purpose, He is going to reach out and bring it in again. He said – I hope I am not around when that happens.
Now, I have a question that came in and I am going to answer it. I feel that I should. Here is the question: “Do you honestly believe that the Bible speaks of the present nuclear power and the annihilation of the people from the earth?”
Without fear of contradiction I say YES. And as I speak for the next few minutes, don’t you dare feel as though I am a pessimist! I know you and I are so spoiled. We want everything said and done that pleases us. We must be pleased. We only want the happy things. We don’t want things that make us afraid. News is being suppressed. Literally, actually the press is being suppressed so the people will not panic. The American people are afraid to face facts. This present generation refuses absolutely to face facts. A man won’t look himself directly in the face. They don’t want to face important issues. This generation is a spoiled generation, as unstable, as vacillating as any generation that has ever lived.
I think that sometimes I am the greatest optimist that ever lived. It is not my nature naturally to be a pessimist. Nothing is impossible. I was born an optimist. There isn’t one thing about my natural nature that is pessimistic. I am like that. I can laugh about something that nobody sees anything funny about. That is the reason I can deal with people 16, 18 hours a day. Sure! That is the reason I can love people. If I didn’t see the funny side of you, I couldn’t take you. That’s right! Therefore, don’t you think for one minute that in bringing you facts this morning that I am a pessimist.
I would be the meanest person in the whole world, if I saw a house burning and I knew that there were living human beings in that house and I did nothing to help them escape and just stood by complacently not raising a finger, not lifting my voice for help.
Beloved, the whole world is going to be on fire one of these days. The whole world is going to burn with nuclear heat. Talk about annihilation! Man is going to destroy himself. The Bible warns us – and I would be the meanest person in the whole world having this light, seeing it, for it is as plain as can be, and then to keep right on talking to you about the streets of Glory. There is a lot of living that has to be done before we walk the streets of Glory. I am not here to tickle your ears. I am not here to entertain you. Beloved, if I was not obedient to the Holy Ghost, if I did not give that which He has told me to give, if I did not give any further light on the Scripture….
I have here a book. I have been waiting for this book for sometime. One of our commentators quoted from it sometime ago. I heard this commentator as he was making reference to this book. Immediately I started out to get it. I did not get it until yesterday. Some of you may have heard of it. It is called “BREAKTHROUGH TO PEACE.”
Now, first of all, I want you to know exactly how reliable this book is because it is saying something great. Here in this book you will find: “Twelve Views on the Threat of Thermonuclear Extermination,” having been given by twelve different men. These men are not nitwits. When I tell you who they really are, you will understand.
One of them is a professor at the National University of Mexico. He has published a number of books.
Another one is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Colorado.
Another one is a social psychologist. He has taught at Chicago, Harvard and University of Mexico.
Another one was born in Holland. M.D. from Leyden. He is a professor and psychoanalyst.
Another one was born in Germany. Received Ph.D. in biology from Yale. He is now on the staff of Rockefeller Institute, New York, as a Research Associate.
Another one was born in Austria. He is a lecturer in Philosophy and Literature at the University of Leeds, England.
Another one is a professor of Modern History, Master of Peterhouse College and Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University, England.
These are all men who know exactly what they are talking about. On the very first page of this book they quote Albert Einstein. These are his words: “The splitting of the atom has changed everything save our modes of thinking, and thus we drift toward unparalleled catastrophe.” And think of what has happened since Mr. Einstein wrote those words! Think how far back it is since the splitting of the atom!
Now, I am only going to quote very briefly. Here is a question in this book: “What would it really be like if an H-Bomb were to be dropped on New York City?”
“In flesh and blood terms, what would a thermonuclear explosion over a city mean — at the time of the blast, in the days, weeks and months following, and to generations as yet unborn?
“Let us assume one 20-megaton thermonuclear device (equivalent to 20 million tons of TNT) is exploded two miles above Columbus Circle in Midtown Manhattan.”
Now, let me explain something to you before I continue. There are those in this auditorium who know full well what happened when Hiroshima was bombed. Remember, it was bombed with weapons only one-thousandth as potent as a 20-megaton bomb. You have read about it; you have had news commentators tell you about it; you have seen pictures on your television sets regarding the destruction, regarding that which happened; the thousands who were killed in one hour in Hiroshima. When that bomb was dropped – remember something. When one talks of a 20-megaton bomb, always remember that the weapons used, the bomb dropped on Hiroshima was only one-thousandth as powerful, as potent, as a 20-megaton bomb. Keep that in mind as I continue reading from this book.
“As the bomb explodes, the sky fills with a bluish-white incandescence whose heat at the center approaches that of the sun itself. It rapidly expands until it is four miles wide. To the west it spans the Hudson River; to the east it reaches across the East River to Queens. Times Square, Rockefeller Center, big ocean liners, Central Park, the United Nations are instantly incinerated.
“Material in the fireball begins to condense and spread out as it reaches altitudes of five to 10 miles, thus forming the mushroom cloud. About 25 miles up, it burns itself out. Meanwhile, a huge pressure wave traveling initially at speeds many times that of sound has spread out from the center of the explosion, crushing everything in its path until it gradually loses its force. Immediately behind this shock front comes the wind at speeds initially exceeding a thousand miles per hour, toppling whatever might still be standing. (Structures like telephone poles and radio towers which might resist the shock front are much more vulnerable to the winds that follow.)”
You don’t want to face facts! Tell me I am nuts when I bring the Word of Prophecy! When we come right face to face with it, we got all cocked and primed – our own nation as well as our enemy – we got all ready to use that first bomb. Do you want to know why we have not used it up until now? Because we still have enough intelligence to know that immediately when we enter into that next war – and war is coming, … it will be the complete annihilation of civilization. Man will destroy himself.
Those in authority are still intelligent enough to know, and Khrushchev still knows that when that first bomb is turned loose, he has nothing to gain; we have nothing to gain. No one is going to win this next war. No one! But the day is coming when there will be war. It is just being postponed a little. We are getting a breather now – just a breather. Watch this as I continue reading.
“What would have happened to the people under and around the burst?
“The study indicates that almost six million out of eight million New Yorkers would have died within the first few days, mostly from blast and heat. If the burst occurred on a weekday, when 900,000 commuters were in the city, the figure would be correspondingly higher. In the suburbs many more would die in the first few days from blast and heat.”
Bible scholars never could understand why He talks about the heat in describing the suffering in the last days; the scorched earth. This is exactly what He is talking about: “…almost six million out of eight million New Yorkers would have died within the first few days, mostly from blast and heat.”
“Near the center, most people would be killed almost instantly from the heat. At distances of up to twenty-seven miles from ground zero an individual might receive third degree burns; second degree burns may be suffered by persons up to thirty-two miles away; first degree burns would occur at forty-five miles. Second and third degree burns received under such circumstances could well prove fatal.
“The bomb could totally destroy ordinary unreinforced brick or wood-frame houses ten miles away; such homes twenty miles away would remain standing but would need major repairs. Some damage, such as broken windows, would be incurred by most structures fifty miles or more away. There would be many individual variations, depending on the peculiarities of construction and behavior of the shock front. The explosion of a mere 20-kiloton bomb (with one-thousandth the power of this one) has been known occasionally to break windows seventy-five to one hundred miles away.
“If the 20-megaton burst were at ground level on Columbus Circle, it would blast a hole, in granite, half a mile wide and 240 feet deep, big enough to contain a 20-story building. This would penetrate all three subway systems. Since a blast wave traveling in a tunnel loses its energy much more slowly than when it is traveling in the open air, the death-dealing force could be expected to run through the entire underground-connected portion of the subway system.”
Our poor, puny little mind cannot fathom it! This is something we are living with. While we go around dreaming, saying, it can’t be, they will work it out – beloved, when we go to sleep at night these things are a reality. Continuing, if you please.
“If it were 50 megatons…
“The study on which this article is based was begun when a 20-megaton weapon was considered the largest in nuclear arsenals. However, the Soviet Union has now detonated a 57-megaton device.”
We are talking about a 20-megaton bomb. These are FACTS. This has come out of Washington. Think what that would do to the United States!
“Although some scientists state that even 500- and 1,000-megaton bombs are possible, it is generally agreed that more devastation can be caused by using more of the relatively smaller weapons.”
I have been talking about the destruction caused by a 20-megaton bomb, and scientists agree that even “500 and 1,000-megaton bombs are possible.”
“For those who survived the immediate heat and blast, the next great problem would be the firestorm.
“Firestorms would be an almost inevitable consequence of bombings in the megaton range on a large city, according to W. T. Ham in testimony before the Holifield Committee. ‘Just what measures can be adopted for survival during a firestorm are not readily apparent,’ he said. ‘Survivors of the initial effects of blast, thermal and ionizing radiation from a megaton burst must cope also with the incinerating heat of firestorms. Severe burn casualties from secondary fires will outnumber vastly flash burn casualties from the fireball.’
“One of the firestorms on which the most complete data is available occurred in Hamburg on July 27, 1943. In this raid 60,000 inhabitants of the city perished, almost as many as were killed in the atom bombing of Hiroshima. Wind velocity exceeded 150 miles per hour; burning gases rose to 15,000 feet; temperatures exceeded 1,400° F. In view of the current interest in shelters, it is noteworthy to observe the fate of people in air-raid shelters in the Hamburg firestorm.
“Many persons were simply cooked to death as if they had been in an oven. In other shelters people were found in positions indicating they had died unaware of the imminent danger. Some of these evidently were victims of heat stroke. A much larger percentage, however, showed characteristics of carbon monoxide poisoning. Wood fires normally contain three per cent carbon monoxide; a concentration of .5 per cent in the air may cause death after one hour’s exposure.”
Now get this: “No one seriously doubts that it is now possible for man and his society to be completely destroyed in a nuclear war. This possibility must be soberly faced, even though it is so momentous in all its implications that we can hardly adjust ourselves to it in a fully rational manner. Indeed, this awful threat is the chief psychological weapon of the cold war. America and Russia are playing the paranoid game of nuclear deterrence, each one desperately hoping to preserve peace by threatening the other with bigger bombs and total annihilation.”
Get your head from out of the sand! Stop being an ostrich! Let’s face facts. All right, let’s continue.
“Meanwhile (right now) the United States alone possesses a stockpile of nuclear weapons estimated at 60,000 megatons.”
We better stop dreaming. THE WORLD HAD BETTER START PRAYING! We better be getting down o our knees. We better get back to God, and get back to God FAST! I have just been telling you of a 20-megaton bomb. The United States alone possesses nuclear weapons estimated at 60,000 megatons. That has nothing to do with Soviet Russia. If we possess this much, think how much Russia possesses!
“Meanwhile the United States alone possesses a stockpile of nuclear weapons estimated at 60,000 megatons. This is enough to wipe out the present civilized world and to permanently affect all life on the planet earth.”
I told you man was outsmarting himself! We have gotten so smart, we have gotten so wise, we have gotten so brilliant, we have gotten so self-sufficient – no, we don’t want God in our plans. What do we need Him for? Self-sufficient? This generation is utterly self-sufficient. They don’t need God. The average man says – I can make a living without God. What has He done for me? We are educated – I get so sick and tired of people telling me – Don’t you know we are the best educated people in the world? If you ask me, we are educated beyond our intelligence; we are educated beyond good common sense; we are educated beyond wisdom.
There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom. In some instances, we are nothing more or less than educated fools. The day is coming when literally man is going to destroy himself. Over and over again, I am asked this question. The first thing the average business man asks me is this: “Would God destroy this civilization?” Absolutely not! God won’t have to destroy this civilization, this generation. God won’t have to destroy man. MAN IS GOING TO DESTROY HIMSELF.
The Holy Spirit is still the restraining force. The only reason, beloved, and I believe it with every atom of my being, the only reason that man has not, up until now, destroyed himself, the only reason that man has not made a greater fool of himself than he has up until now, the only reason there is still a temporary lull in this thing, is because of the restraining force and the restraining power of the Holy Ghost who is yet here in this earth; and because of the Church, for the sake of God’s precious people; for the sake of those who still love God and serve Him. The Holy Ghost is using His restraining power to keep the power of the nuclear weapons from being used. Watch now.
“Meanwhile the United States alone possesses a stockpile of nuclear weapons estimated at 60,000 megatons. This is enough to wipe out the present civilized world and to permanently affect all life on the planet earth. These nuclear bombs can be delivered by some 2,500 planes. It is no secret that such planes are constantly in the air, ready to strike. There are 200 missiles available to U. S. forces, mostly of intermediate range, and this does not suggest the immediate likelihood of a purely push-button war. But it is estimated that by 1963 there will be two thousand more of them, of which a large proportion will be intercontinental missiles based in ‘hard’ installations. Attack on hard installations means ground bursts and therefore more fallout as well as more bombs. Hence even an attack concentrated on our missile bases is bound to have a destructive effect on many population centers.”
I am giving you something that is being discussed by the heads of our nation. This isn’t something that is away off. If I could only get you to see that this is something we are living with. This is something that is HERE. This is something that is only a few miles from us. This is at our back door. This is what the people talk about.
That is the reason that in the 21st chapter of Luke, verse 26 – and this came from the lips of Jesus – it says: “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, …”
If I wasn’t a Christian today, I would be scared stiff! Do you want to know why there are more heart attacks in this generation than in any other generation? Look at the people – 52, 53, 45 years of age with heart attacks. Jesus said; “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” What will cause the “powers of heaven to be shaken?” Man’s own invention. The very nuclear weapons that I have been talking about. Our great stockpile of nuclear weapons is enough today to cause the annihilation of the entire universe.
That is the reason when Jesus, in a most solemn talk that He had with His disciples – talking about the last days, Jesus Himself said something of which few of us realize the full impact and the aftermath. Looking down through the telescope of time, He wanted to say things. The disciples didn’t know what He was talking about. They could think in terms of fish, but this was so far out, so far beyond their minds to comprehend. None of this was even in the minds of men. But looking on down to the year 1962, 1963, clear on down, Jesus said: “And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” The suffering, He said, will be so terrific.
We think in terms of suffering. Oh, sure, we think of physical suffering. Do you want to know what kind of suffering He was talking about? He was talking about suffering from the heat of nuclear weapons. Would to God one could be immediately killed! That would be mercy. But what these 12 writers are saying, what these scientists are saying, what these professors are saying, is that even though six million out of eight million people may be killed, there will still be thousands and thousands who will suffer third degree burns; second degree burns; and first degree burns. The suffering will be terrific – and when you realize, there will be no hospitals and no one to take care of the suffering. Jesus said the suffering would be so great that “except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved.” In His tender mercy, He will literally shorten the days.
Not figuratively speaking, but literally, He will shorten the time. There will still be as many hours, as many minutes. It doesn’t mean that time will change, but He will cause time to be so shortened because, He said, if He doesn’t, there would be no flesh saved on the earth whatsoever.
There was nothing to substantiate those words until our generation; until now. Let me give you something in Joel. It is about time we got the old ostrich’s head out of the sand and started taking inventory. I don’t want to be here when this happens. This book of Joel has the whole picture of the end-time of this present age. No generation – and I shouldn’t even use the word generation – I should say, only the folks in the past 5 years can fully understand now what the prophet Joel was talking about.
Joel 2:1 to 3:
“Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
Joel 2:1-3
“A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
“A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape theme”
“A fire…” What have I just been reading to you? This book “Breakthrough to Peace” is not a religious book. This is a scientific book. It was published in 1962. It tells of the present stockpile of nuclear weapons. It tells what can happen; what destruction one 20-megaton bomb can cause. It tells of the heat at the center of it being comparable to the heat of the sun. “A fire…” – describing the destruction in the last days. You would never know, if I continued to read from this book and would have continued to read this third verse, that it was not something out of the Bible.
Now, here come our bombers. Joel 2:4:
“The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.”
Joel 2:4
Verse 5:
“Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.”
Joel 2:5
Verse 6:
“Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.”
Joel 2:6
Verse 7:
“They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks.”
Joel 2:7
Verse 10:
“The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble; the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.”
Joel 2:10
The very same thing is spoken of in the 8th chapter of the Book of the Revelation. You take Joel from the Old Testament, take Revelation and this Scripture in Luke 21:26 fro the New Testament, take this scientific book and you can’t tell one from the other. They are all talking about the very same thing.
Revelation 8:8, 9, 10:
“And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
“And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.“And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters.”
Revelation 8:8,9,10
That is your nuclear weapons!
Revelation 8:11 and 13:
“And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
Revelation 8:11,13
“And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, WOE, WOE, WOE, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!”
“Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth…” I don’t want to be here when that happens. But, beloved, as surely as you are sitting there and you can feel the beat of your heart, as surely as you feel breath as you inhale and exhale, as surely as I know that I have life in my body, as surely as there is a God on His Throne, THESE THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN!!! And a people never faced a darker future than the people of this generation are facing today. “FOR WHEN THEY SHALL SAY, PEACE AND SAFETY; THEN SUDDEN DESTRUCTION COMMETH UPON THEM.”
When I go to sleep at night, realizing that we have enough explosives to completely annihilate this entire planet, I thank God for my confidence in Him. Beloved, I am not pessimist. Why, I am the world’s greatest optimist. Being an optimist or a pessimist does not enter into it. Today, we face facts. I have given you the Word of God, and a fool is the man or the woman who won’t listen.
“When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the Throne.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;All other ground is sinking sand.”
I am glad that I have – and can offer you – the greatest life insurance policy in the world. The salesman sold you a death insurance policy. This – the Word – is the only life insurance policy. In it, there is LIFE ETERNAL. And the man or the woman who holds this life insurance policy is the ONLY PERSON who has a bright future!
