SERMON NO. 24

  • Revelation 12:4 through 17.

From here on out it gets very deep. There are some things now that I may have to say to you I do not know; I cannot tell you.

I think the thing that is so confusing is this 12th chapter of the Book of the Revelation: these two great wonders. You must have that straight. You have to get these two great wonders straight, because they are more or less a key to the rest from here on out.

And remember, I can prove that anything that I have brought you in the Book of the Revelation is correct, because I can prove it from other Scripture in the Bible. That is the reason I said to you that you cannot understand the Book of the Revelation unless you have an understanding of the rest of the Bible. You have to understand both the Old and the New Testaments. Ninety-eight per cent of the preachers call the Book of the Revelation a mystery, not to be understood. Sure, it is to be understood! It is God’s last word to man. It is so important that He has pronounced death on anyone who will add to it or take away from it.

This Book of the Revelation is all important. And now as we are seeing it fulfilled in our generation, we realize that if ever there was a people who needed the understanding, if ever there was a time that the Holy Ghost was revealing the truths of the Revelation, it is NOW. That is the reason it is so understandable to you and to me. He is revealing it to us.

Let me just review briefly this 12th chapter of the Revelation. You will remember that John, in his wonderful vision, saw two great wonders. The first one was “a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.” We know immediately that it is Israel in characteristic. Why preachers can’t see that, I do not know. Some of our most learned men, some of our greatest commentaries – sometimes I am glad I am not smart. I have to depend on Him for all the knowledge that I have. I can’t depend on anything that I have learned in a seminary. I am UTTERLY dependent on the Holy Ghost. And sometimes I am positive that He is the best teacher after all. So in depending on Him, acknowledging my ignorance, He gives me the revelation.

This isn’t the Church and yet, they teach it is. It couldn’t possibly be! With all the pushing and the shoving and the twisting you can do, this woman that John saw cannot possibly be the Church. THE CHURCH HAS ALREADY BEEN RAPTURED. We are past that time entirely. We are completely past the time of the Church. The Church is at the Wedding Supper of the Lamb. All that John saw is taking place here on this earth, and we know immediately when John saw this great wonder, he understood. This is one thing that John understood. I believe that when John saw this “woman, and upon her head the crown of twelve stars,” he knew that it was characteristic of Israel. That is your key – the crown of twelve stars upon her head.- and again, the fact that she brought forth “a man-child.” There was a birth. Therefore, we know that the first great wonder that John saw was NOT the Church.

There is no doubt about the second great wonder that he saw. None whatsoever! For it plainly teaches, and that was the thing evidently that God was afraid that we might miss, and that is, the identity of the second great wonder. He evidently thought that because of the woman having a crown of twelve stars, it would be very simple to know it was characteristic of Israel. But He wanted to be sure that there was no mistake about the second wonder, because He not only names the “great red dragon” and calls him “that old serpent, the Devil, Satan;” but He also goes so far as to show him, in vision, being cast out of heaven and drawing with him one-third of the angels.

That is what I have been teaching you for a long time, that when Lucifer fell – Lucifer who was one of the three most beautiful angels that God created – he not only fell alone, he took with him one-third of the angels. In other words, it has been my belief that he took with him, at the time of his fall, all of the angels on this planet over which he ruled and reigned – ALL OF THEM. They all fell; they ALL became disembodied spirits, when he fell. That is why there was absolute chaos upon this earth between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2.

Really, you cannot say that science and the Bible do not agree. They are in perfect harmony, but man is so stupid – stupid in this: They say that this planet is 6,000 years old. It isn’t! You cannot say the Bible says that it is 6,000 years old. It can be millions, billions of years old and not violate one portion of the Word of God. Know that! Remember, man is only 6,000 years old. Science comes up and they say – All right, we have found this and we have found the other thing. We found the skeleton of an animal that was thousands and thousands of years old. Therefore, they say, it violates the Word of God. It doesn’t! They have never found the skeleton of any human being that was more than 6,000 years old. Science has never produced the skeleton of a human being that was more than 6,000 years old. Man is just 6,000 years old – from the time of the creation of Adam and Eve.

But remember something. Prior to that, I believe that there were animals of all kinds upon this earth; that there was habitation upon this earth. It does not violate the Scripture, one iota, when they find anything a million years old; but they have never found a man’s skeleton more than 6,000 years old. There was creation on this earth. “Replenish the earth,” after Genesis 1:2.

Lucifer ruled and reigned over this planet, how many millions of years, we will never know. Not only angels, but there was vegetation, there was animal life on this planet, before God ever made man. That is why when it is restored again, It will be restored to its original beauty, only instead of being inhabited by angels as it originally was, it will be the eternal heaven of those who have accepted Christ as their personal Saviour. We shall live upon this planet again without sin and without the enemy. I still think it would be a wonderful world, I would be perfectly satisfied, except for the mischief that Satan causes upon this earth. All the trouble is because of sin.

Free moral agency once inhabited this planet and free moral agency will again inhabit this planet. That is why God made man. When the angels fell, God created man.

Did you ever wonder why God created man? Sure, God has a reason. Know that! The angels, as created beings, were free to worship Him or free to reject Him. Lucifer permitted sin in his heart. He wanted “to be like unto the most High God.” He refused to worship God and when he fell, he took with him one-third of the angels.

That is the reason when John saw this second wonder, to be dead sure that he would know who the one was, he was not only called by name as “Satan, the Devil, which deceiveth the whole world;” but he was also described as “the one who drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth.” As I told you before, over and over again, in the Old Testament, the angels are referred to as “stars.”

This is the picture now. You cannot separate one wonder from the other. Just at that time, at the close – I back up, because it will be during the three and a half years of the last part of the tribulation when Israel, as a whole – and the Word of God says ALL ISRAEL – shall be saved. I want to give you that Scripture. It is most important. It is found in Romans 11:26: “And so ALL ISPAEL SHALL BE SAVED….” Not just the 144, 000, not just 12,000 from each of the ten tribes of Israel, but ALL ISRAEL, as a nation, SHALL BE SAVED, shall be converted. Continue reading Romans 11:27 to 29:

“For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
As concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sakes: as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”

Romans 11:37-29

You will be punished for your sin; you will be punished for your backsliding. Remember, the one thing that God will NOT tolerate is SIN. But if God has given a promise, if God has given His Word, if God has made a covenant, if God has given a gift, He is not an Indian giver. When He gives a gift, He never takes that gift away from you, but He holds you responsible for that gift.

I am scared stiff! Nobody knows how I feel on the inside of me. I may seem to some people like a peculiar person. You don’t understand why I don’t do certain things, and why I do certain other things. I know, beloved, that I have a responsibility to God. I know some things that He has given me and it is something that is between the two of us. It is something that is very personal. And as surely as He has given one something, He holds you responsible for it.

It is like a trust. He will not take it away from you, if He has given it to you. He is not
an Indian giver. He will not say – I want it back! But if you are not TRUE to that trust, if you are not FAITHFUL to Him with that thing, He brings you into judgment. In other words, He says to the people: “Touch not Mine anointed.” You have no right. I am an anointed servant. He has called me to preach the Gospel and He has not delegated a single one of you to be my judge. He says – Keep your hands off of her! Don’t criticize her. Leave her alone. But you know something? I would rather have your criticism than the judgment of God. I am responsible to Him and He is the One who is going to bring judgment on me if I do not live right and do right. I am accountable to Him for the gifts that He has given me. I am not accountable to you. He is the One who has called me. Paul said, in modern language – I don’t give two hoots what you think about me, because I am accountable to Him. “Touch not Mine anointed.” But if I do one thing wrong, He is the One who will bring me into judgment for it; He is the One who is going to chastise me.

Watch. Here is Israel. He is talking about Israel. “All Israel shall be saved.” But, beloved, He gave those gifts that He gave, He gave those callings away back there to Abraham and his seed. Look at the promises that He made to Abraham and his seed! Look at the glorious promises that He made to Israel, to the Jewish people, His people – a called-out people; a people with the blessing of God upon them, the very “apple” of God’s eye! And do you know something? Through all of these generations, even while they were standing there crying, outside of Pilate’s judgment hall, screaming, and blaspheming: “His blood be on us, and our children” – oh, the greatest blasphemous words that ever came out of human lips – yet, God never withdrew those covenants, His gifts and His calling from the Jewish people. But all of these years they have been going through a judgment; all of these years they have been paying a price for their backsliding.

For the life of Eichmann, he did not know why he did what he did to those thousands and thousands of Jews. I do not believe that Hitler knew why. I do not believe that men in high authority who have persecuted the Jews, lo, these many years, knew why they have had this intense hatred, and why they have been so thirsty for their blood. No one, except those who understand the Scripture, knows why Jewish people have been so persecuted. The only place that they have ever been welcome is here on American soil. We have opened our doors to them and so enjoyed God’s blessings because of it.

The Jews have been a scattered people, an unwanted and a persecuted people. Why? In exactly the same way as when the angels fell, He did not take from the angels their power. That is one thing that has been hard for me to understand. When Lucifer fell, wouldn’t you have thought that the first thing that God would have taken from Lucifer would be his power? God was his Creator. Wouldn’t you have thought that the very first thing that God would have taken from the angels when they fell with Lucifer would be their power? You are going to find out the great power that Lucifer has when you go deeper into the Book of the Revelation. And yet, God did not take from Lucifer, a created being, his power. All that He took from him was his body, leaving him as a disembodied spirit. Why? Because God’s gifts and His calling are without repentance.

The Jews have had to pay, and pay dearly. That is the reason, you keep your hands off of them! They are still God’s people. Don’t you allow hatred to get into your heart! You sin if you do. God still loves them. God will take care of His own. You keep your hands off!

Romans 11:29: “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” He has given the gifts; He has called them; He has given the covenants to them. And, my word! After He gets through punishing them like a mother or a father punishes a disobedient child, in the end, He comes right back and keeps every covenant that He ever made with Abraham and his seed; and we find, in the final analysis, that ALL OF ISRAEL WILL BE SAVED. That’s it !

Now, then, Satan knows exactly what is happening. Right now, while I bring this message, Satan knows that God is winding things up. He knows better than anyone in this auditorium how near we are to the end. He knows! That is the reason I say to you, if I have got something special that I want to do for God, I don’t tell a soul about it, because Satan cannot read your mind. He can put thoughts there, but he cannot read your mind. So, if I do not talk about it. … Haven’t you had something that you were going to do and then you blabbed it to someone, and it didn’t work out? The old boy was sitting on the door step waiting for you. I know if I can keep him trailing along behind me, I am all right.

Satan knows exactly what is going to happen, because Satan knows what God had promised Abraham and Satan knows better than anyone in this place tonight that God will keep His covenants and His promises, and he is waiting; he is on the door step now. And when that time comes for the man-child to be delivered, when it comes to that moment when Israel is given the second chance – they had their first chance when He came as a Babe in the manger and they rejected Him; and they have been a scattered people ever since. But now He gathers them back into a nation, Israel. For the first time in 2,400 years, they have a government recognized by all other governments in the world. God gives them another chance. The blindness is lifted from their eyes, and they see Him, not as a Baby in swaddling clothes and in a manger, but as the man-child. They see their mistake and they accept Him as their Messiah.

What does the Bible say? Revelation 12:4: “… and the dragon stood before the woman (Israel) which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.” Isn’t he (Satan) a scoundrel? Watch.

Verses 6 and 7:

“And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels.”

Revelation 12:6-7

Again I can show you what part Michael and Gabriel both play in answering prayers. Go back to Daniel. (Daniel 10:12, 13; 8:16; 9:21.)

Verse 8:

“And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.”

Revelation 12:8

Verse 9:

“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Revelation 12:9

Verse 10:

“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

Revelation 12:10

When we talk of him being “the accuser of our brethren,” it is true the Devil is our accuser, night and day. He knows that there is no perfection in anyone of us. Daily he comes before the Father’s throne and he accuses me and he says – Uh-huh: That one that You have called, that Kathryn Kuhlman, you know what I saw her do today? He is up there accusing me all the time, and if God would call me up there and say – Did you do so and so? I would have to say I did. That is the reason we have the Great High Priest, Jesus Christ, who ever liveth to make intercession for us. But this Scripture also means more than that. He is talking about the Jewish brethren also, and he (the Devil) accuses them night and day. The Jewish brethren. “… for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

Verse 11:

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

Revelation 12:11

This proves that whether one is Jew or Gentile, it is still THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB. No Jew will get to heaven without the blood of the Lamb. Oh, they hated the blood of that One who hung on the cross! That is the reason they cried: “His blood be on us, and on our children.” That blood! That blood! To this day when you talk about the blood of Jesus Christ to a Jew who is in spiritual blindness, they can’t stand it. That is a dirty word in the Jewish household. And yet, no Jew will be saved except through the blood of the Lamb. “IT IS THE BLOOD THAT MAKETH AN ATONEMENT FOR THE SOUL.” That is why immediately it continues by saying: “And they overcame…” Who are “they?” Israel. All of Israel will be converted. “And they overcame him (the Devil) by THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB, and by THE WORD OF THEIR TESTIMONY.” They will face the whole world and say: We have accepted the Messiah. We have accepted Him as the True Messiah.

Get this, because when we come into the 13th chapter of the Revelation, we find how angry the Devil is. We see for the first time – in the 13th chapter, the false prophet.

Why does the Devil bring up a false prophet? To be an imitator of Jesus Christ. Oh, the old scoundrel! First of all, he was right there, the Scripture says: “… and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to DEVOUR her child as soon as it was borne” (Rev. 12:4.) He was trying everything in the world to keep Israel from accepting Christ as the Messiah. You will find out later, when he was caught in the middle and the plans were spoiled and Michael defeated him, he thought of another plan.

When the Devil saw the absolute devotion to the Messiah, when he saw that they were giving their testimony, saying – We have accepted the Messiah and we have been washed in the blood of the Lamb, when he saw suddenly how religious Israel had become, we find – and it is always true. I told you over and over again that wherever there was the genuine in anything that is spiritual – I don’t care what it is, there is always a counterfeit. That is where people sometimes get off in speaking in tongues. There absolutely is an experience of speaking in tongues. But remember, so many people are fooled by the counterfeit. For everything that there is the reality and the genuine in the spiritual life, or anything regarding God, right along with it you will find a counterfeit, because the Devil is a mimic. He has mimicked everything that God has done, because it is in his heart “to be like unto the most High God.”

Haven’t you seen somebody who wanted so to be like somebody else? They were so jealous of them. They tried to look like them. They mimicked them in everything.

In everything that there is a genuine, there is a counterfeit. Always know that. That is the reason the Lord said “try the spirits.” Because there are two forces in the world tonight: the forces of righteousness and the forces of unrighteousness. Just the two spirits. One is of God; one is of the Devil. And sometimes THE DEVIL’S COUNTERFEIT IS SO MUCH LIKE THE GENUINE, YOU CAN HARDLY TELL ONE FROM THE OTHER.

Right down to the very end – and finally when he finds out he cannot defeat Israel any other way, we see coming up in the 13th chapter the false prophet. The false prophet will be so like unto the True Messiah that he is still trying to deceive the world and to deceive Israel. When this false prophet comes, he begins to perform miracles. He thinks he can throw the Jews off when he performs miracles. An imitation of the True Messiah.

Do you know something? I want to say this because when you talk about the Devil performing miracles, there is no proof in the Word of God – and even in this when he causes great things to happen – you cannot prove from the Scripture that the Devil has ever healed a sick body. You cannot! Even in the great wonders that he does here, it does not say that he performs miracles of healing, because that isn’t in his nature. He would be working against himself because all sickness has come through sin. There was no sickness until there was sin. Know that! He would be working against himself if he healed sick bodies, because sickness is the result of sin. Now, don’t you say Miss Kuhlman said you are sick because of sin. I did not say that. What I said was that there was no sickness until man fell. Sin and sickness came into the world together. Therefore, if Satan healed sick bodies, he would be working against himself. “A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand,” Therefore, in these miracles that will be performed by the false prophet, you cannot find any sick body that was healed.

Now, we come back, because I have got to finish this 12th chapter. Remember the false prophet does not arise until he finds out that Israel accepts Jesus as the True Messiah, and that they are giving their testimony to the whole world. “… and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

Revelation 12:12:

“Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”

Revelation 12:12

Now, watch Satan and Israel in this great tribulation. The suffering will be intense. I shall read this and then give you a Scripture that confirms everything that I tell you.

Verse 13:

“And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.”

Revelation 12:13

Verse 14:

“And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. “

Revelation 12:14

That same Scripture is quoted in Exodus 19:4: “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.” The same words exactly! Isn’t it amazing how a backslider comes right back to where he leaves off. Israel goes right back to where she started her backsliding. All backsliders have to go right back to where they left off.

Revelation 12:15

“And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.”

Remember 12:15

That does not mean water, not actual water, because it will be during that time that there will be this great drought.

Verse 16:

“And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.”

Revelation 12:16

Verse 17:

“And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

Revelation 12:17

Now then, the same thing exactly is spoken of in Matthew, and now you get the true interpretation of this Scripture. Turn to Matthew 24:15. It is the same thing that was happening that John saw, in vision, and wrote in this, the last part of the 12th chapter of the Revelation.

You remember that the disciples were with the Master on the Mount of Olives and they said: “Tell us, what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” There isn’t such a thing as the end of the end of the world, but they did not know how better to express it. “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” (Matthew 21:4 and 5.)

But in that 15th verse of Matthew 24, Jesus is still talking:

“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Matthew 24:15

Verse 16:

“Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains.”

Matthew 24:16

Why do they have to flee? Because of the persecution of Satan. He will bring such suffering, such persecution upon Israel, upon the Jews, over having accepted Jesus as the True Messiah. The suffering will be so intense that this is the day, this is the time that the Devil so persecutes Israel that God, in His tender mercy, will literally shorten the hours of the day and the days of the week for the sake of those precious Jewish people.

Continue reading Matthew 24:17 to 20:

“Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house:
“Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
“And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days !
“But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day.”

Matthew 24:17-20

Now, verse 21:

“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

Matthew 24:21

“For then …” When? The very thing that we are talking about here in the 12th chapter of the Book of the Revelation, and I am reading from Matthew 24.

Verse 22:

“And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved:
but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”

Matthew 24:22

“… for the elect’s sake.” Who? The Jews.

Over there in Luke 23:28, there are only a few words spoken and many wonder why they were spoken. It is at the crucifixion. The Jews were indirectly responsible for His crucifixion. Jesus is on the cross; He is suffering intense agony; He is dying. They are spitting on Him; they had driven the nails through His hands.

“But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.”

Luke 23:28

‘Don’t cry for Me. Don’t feel sorry for Me. Save your tears; save your crying. I am not the One to be pitied. Weep not for Me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.’

Why? Luke 23:29:

“For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.”

Luke 23:29

Verse 30:

“Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.”

Luke 23:30

Verse 31:

“For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?”

Luke 23:31

What was He talking about? He was talking about this very same thing that we have here in the 12th chapter of the Book of the Revelation, when Satan goes after Israel and persecutes her with such great persecution that she flees into the wilderness for protection. And you find that she (Israel) will have nothing to eat except she is fed of the Lord in a marvelous way, for in that day no man will be able to buy or sell without the mark of the beast and the Jewish people will refuse to take his mark for they have accepted the Christ as the True Messiah. PRAISE THE LORD !
